Everyone knows that you shouldn’t buy into trends – especially when you don’t think they suit you. But if there’s a look you love, it’s never a bad idea to adopt it into your own personal style set. How can you make today’s hottest looks your own? Here’s a look at some Trendy Women’s clothes, and how to make them work for you.

Texture - Add depth to your new look with textures like furs, lace, or beaded accents. Make people want to touch. Give them something to look at. Try a sequined jacket for an evening look.

So, when all factors are equal, clothing really does count. Appearance, if not everything, is a large chunk of what you will be judged by. Here are some tips to help you look professional in your interview suit, and get an edge over your competitors.

Tailoring is key – When you buy your interview suit, take it to a tailor at least a week before the interview, if it’s possible. Make sure it’s fitted in all the right places. A hundred dollar suit can look like a million if it’s fitted to you perfectly. If you wear a skirt, the hem should fall just at, or below the knee, and trousers should fall to the top of your instep. Sleeves should fit you just below your wrist bone.

Always dress one level higher than the current employees are dressing – Basically, examine the environment. If the dress code is strictly casual, wear trousers, and a button up shirt. If it’s more business oriented, wear your nicest work suit. Even if people show up to work in jeans and flip flops, you’d better be in closed toed shoes, and khaki’s at least. If you’re not sure about the dress code, either ask your interviewer beforehand, or err on the side of caution.

Avoid strange colors, perfumes, or extravagant accessories. Unless you are interviewing to be a fashion stylist, you’re not in the interview to showcase your fashion sense. While you want to stick out in the interviewer’s mind, don’t do so in a way that brings your professionalism into question.
There are many great resources for professional interview clothes. Shop around, and find a style you like. It’s entirely OK to reinvent yourself in order to grab the job you want.

1. Relying too heavily on the fashion media.

You buy all the fashion magazines religiously, watch awards shows, read the paper and keep up with all the online sources. How could that be a mistake?

By relying too heavily on the media to rule your wardrobe, you run the risk of being a fashion victim.

Remember: most magazines and TV programs about fashion produce an “aspirational” effect. They present you with fabulous clothes you’ll want to buy on fabulous models you’ll want to look like.

The problem is that a) you probably can’t afford any of the clothes they show and b) you’re never going to look like a supermodel or a celebrity.

2. Buying clothes that don’t fit.

You probably already know that you should NEVER buy something too small, thinking you’ll lose weight — even if it is a $10 Pucci dress you picked up off eBay.

3. Creating a mish-mash wardrobe by buying odds and ends.

Buying up odds and ends on sale may seem to make sense. After all, the easy availability of off-price merchandise has lulled us into thinking that minor purchases won’t blow our wardrobe concept or budget.

Actually, it’s the little things that kill your wardrobe. Without a plan, you can end up with tons of clothes and nothing to wear. But it’s never to late to change your habits

4. Getting stuck in a style rut.

Sticking with classics has been conventional style wisdom for ages, and for women with full lives and limited resources this is still a sure way to investment dressing.

The problem is that as we grow older, we sometimes become a little too comfortable wearing our old standbys (or just doing “replenishment” shopping each season).

Tags: Some high-end designers like Louis Vuitton do not attach tags to their bags with plastic fasteners. Information and price tags usually are taken off by sales associates at the store and placed in an interior pocket. Also be aware if your bag comes with a fabric swatch.

Codes: A few brands, such as Chanel and Louis Vuitton, include serial numbers that indicate the year that the bag was made. Get to know these codes, and you’ll be able to tell whether the bag you’re being sold is new, refurbished, or just plain fake.

Seams: Corner stitches should be neat and align on high-end bags.

Zippers: These closures are often custom-designed for the brand or the bag style. Counterfeiters may not notice, but a bag’s zipper might read the brand’s name on one side, and have a design on the other.

Fonts: Check any places on the bag or accompanying tags for the brand’s lettering. Too much or too narrow spacing between letters or words can be a red flag.

Hardware: Certain styles or designers use one kind of screws or rivets to attach name plates, chains, or clasps. On certain Chanel bags, the screws that secure the turnlock closure should be flatheads.

Care cards: Designers will include care instructions for some styles or line of accessories, but not all the bags by one brand will come with them. If your bag comes with a card, check the grammar and spelling.

In May, the “Sex and the City: The Movie” hit theaters, giving fans of the hit HBO series a chance to reconnect with their favorite four ladies of NYC for the first time in four years. Now, Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays writer Carrie Bradshaw, tells “Access Hollywood” how she resurrected the project after many assumed the last cosmo had been drunk.

I watched the movie this weekend and thought it was horrible. I watched the TV series and loved it, but I think this movie is a waste of money. While speaking to my friends recently, I was surprised to hear that many of them dislike purchasing discount women’s clothing online. This struck me as odd, because even though they presented arguments, such as being unable to see the physical product or try it on, I have always found that the advantages of buying online far outweighed the disadvantages. So, to all of you online shopophobes, please allow me to present my case.

I can get things online that I can’t find anywhere else. This is the most important advantage to me. Like many, I crave designer goods, but it’s harder to comparison shop locally. I also wear specialty size clothing, which makes shopping at home too much of a hassle. I don’t want to take everything to the tailor, when I could just get my exact size online.

Online stores are open all the time. 24/7. Which means, with my schedule, I can shop while most people are asleep, and I can even sneakily browse through clothing at coffee shops or wi-fi hotspots. That sort of freedom is addictive. I don’t have to dress up to look at fancy clothes, or even get out of bed.

There are less impulse buys online. If you have to wait three to four days to get your purchase, you tend to think a little bit more about it. You won’t buy a belt because it matches what you have on right now, nor will you splurge on a dress for a party tonight, and then never wear it again. It’s a forced planning mechanism.

Online stores provide electronic receipts in e-mail form. For me, since I do most of my banking online, this is a lifesaver. I can monitor all of my expenditures straight from my computer, rather than from my checkbook and paper receipts.

Fashion trends never really die, and this season in particular is bringing us old styles revamped. Mod cuts and styles are huge, but the prints we’re seeing are reminiscent of another age. 70’s paisleys in earthy tones are back as strong as ever. Art Nouveau inspired curls and lines cover fabrics from chiffons to satins.

An unexpected revival comes in the form of Tie Dye. This look hasn’t been around for years, but no one is complaining about the update. The colors have shifted from saturated rainbows, to deep gem tones, making this old look relevant again.

70’s inspired peasant tunic tops are here again, and have been since last fall. This long running trend shows no signs of dying out – likely because of the comfort of the billowy cuts. You don’t need to raid mom’s closet anymore for amazing retro and vintage clothing.

Opposites attract. Any student of psychology will tell you this, and anyone interested in color theory will agree. It’s important to dress in tones that will complement your skin, in order to give you the very best look in any season. We’ve broken down some of the colors that will look great on a variety of tones.

Pale complexion, with light hair – If you’re in this group, then colors with low saturation will wash you right out. Look for strong color, but in light tones. In other words, a navy blue might look drab, but an electric light blue shirt will be sizzling. Avoid green shades if you worry about skin redness.

Pale complexion, with dark hair – You’re all about contrast, so let your clothing work with you, rather than against you. Stick to darker gem tones, like burgundies and deep emerald dresses. Light colors may wash you out. Your face will really be memorable, and your clothes will help your hair frame your face, where all the personality is.

Medium brown to tan complexion – If you have darker skin, lighter colors and neutrals will keep you looking fresh. You’re perfect for earthy tones and there is no particular color you ought to avoid. Bright blues may cause you to look a bit sallow though, so keep your cool tones in lower saturation.

Olive complexion – If you are olive skinned, then watch out for purple. Purple is the natural complement to yellow, so it can make you look a bit sickly. Orange tones and deep blues will really bring your skin to life and give you a vibrant, healthy glow.

Dark complexion – You are lucky. It’s very hard for any color to look bad on you. You can wear almost anything with ease, but neutrals can be a bit drab on you. Brilliant whites, saturated yellows, and shimmery fabrics will look stunning on you. Avoid dark colors.

We are busy people. I can’t count the number of times I’ve gotten ready in the morning, and my daytime wear became my eveningwear only because I simply didn’t make it home before nightfall. It happens to us all, but the real question is, how do we plan for it? How do we make sure we are always fabulously and appropriately attired for the situation?

As luck would have it, it’s not that difficult to turn day into night. It just takes a bit of creativity, and maybe some spare trunk space for an extra pair of shoes. You can turn almost any outfit into an evening ensemble. So take off that sun hat, muss your hair, smear on some dark eyeshadow, and you’re good all night!

A classic dress is a classic party dress as well. If you love bright colors, pile them on in the day, and then when evening hits, put on a snappy black blazer, or some bold jewelry.

Going from the beach to a club can be a bit of a stretch, but it’s entirely possible. Twist your hair into an updo, and change the sandals for some strappy heels. What’s most important is that you choose the right dress if you think you might go out later in the day. A Halter Dress is a great option, and something in a heavy or brushed cotton will stay dry and look classy even after a day in the sun.

A great top can be an outfit all on its own. A flashy blazer can be stunning in the day with jeans, and then paired with a skirt in the evening for a very put together look. A sequined tank can add sparkle for your day look, and then enhance a dressier pair of slacks at night.

If you’re without storage space, then just go out in a pair of nice flats, and your most flattering outfit. If something looks good on you, it’ll look good day or night. You can always slip a flashy necklace in your pocket, or an extra tube of red lipstick in your bag for later.

There are limitless possibilities when your wardrobe can play chameleon, and change to suit the atmosphere. Try them out in front of the mirror at home, and no one will know you had any practice. They’ll just assume that you’re prepared for everything naturally.
