Clean out your 2008 Closet – New 2009 Styles are here!
Dec 29th
Do you find yourself staring at mounds of clothes, and there’s not a thing to wear? Even for the best shoppers, and most frugal spenders, this happens. Here’s a handy guide to cleaning out that closet. Don’t keep what you don’t need, and how not to throw away something you’ll miss later.
Rule #1 : It doesn’t matter how cute it is – If you haven’t worn it in over a year, toss it out! Maybe it’s adorable, but not too comfortable, or it doesn’t match anything. Either way, if you haven’t worn it there’s probably a reason, and it’s time for it to go. You can always find fashionable clothes that you DO enjoy wearing.
Rule #2 : Designer handbags, shoes and belts need cleaning up too – You really don’t need 22 different belts. (Okay, this one is mainly aimed your truly). And I know how painful it is to clear out a shoe collection, but think about it : How many of those shoes do you ACTUALLY wear in a week? One…two? Try and keep about six pairs of shoes. Once you go over that, it might be time to look at what’s useful, and what just takes up space.
Rule#3 : You’ll never wear them again, but someone else might – As odd as it sounds, keep your formal dresses. Prom Dresses, bridesmaid catastophe’s. You won’t get anything for them if you give them to goodwill, or send them to consignment, but you may be able to do a good deed by offering them to a niece at prom, or you might even be able to use them again for a different wedding. Don’t ditch them until they’re past they’re style threshold.
